Our story

At 2 Witches Winery & Brewing Co., we take pride in being Virginia’s first combination winery and brewery, a distinction we’ve held since opening our doors in May 2014. Our story is one of family, creativity, and a little Halloween magic.

The name 2 Witches was inspired by a cherished Polaroid picture of sisters Julie and Andrea, daughters of Marvin and Caren Jefferson, dressed as witches for Halloween. What began as homemade costumes and a playful photo eventually sparked a dream. In retirement, Marvin and Caren envisioned starting a vineyard and knew it would carry the name 2 Witches in honor of their daughters.  After a couple years searching for a location, that dream became a reality with the establishment of a vineyard in Pittsylvania County.

While the family considered establishing the winery at the vineyard, Ethan and Julie Brown were exploring small urban wineries and breweries in North Carolina. The idea for 2 Witches Winery and Brewing Co. was born: a farm winery and nano brewery brought together under one roof in the city limits of Danville, Virginia—a groundbreaking concept for the state.

Although the vineyard has recently been sold, our story continues to grow. We’re still proudly crafting our own wines and brewing unique beers that honor our roots while embracing the future.

….A Family Operation

Marvin and Caren Jefferson, the original dreamers, still play an integral role, while Ethan and Julie lead the charge as operators of the winery and brewery. Their oldest son, Alex, served as Head Brewer from 2014 to 2019 and is now a pilot with Republic Airways and their youngest son Timmy proudly serves in the United States Airforce. Their daughter-in-law, Laura Brown, serves as Business Manager, bringing energy and fresh ideas to the team.

The family has grown in more ways than one. Justin Meadows join the team in 2019 as Head Brewer and continues to push boundaries with innovative brews. We recently welcomed Wesley Marshall as our Cellarman, and Gabriel Bowman has joined as the Head Cook in our exciting new venture: The Cauldron Food Truck, which opened in 2023. Serving up creative, hand-crafted dishes, The Cauldron has quickly become a crowd favorite, adding delicious new flavors to the 2 Witches experience. Our 2 Witches Team includes 12 or so taproom associates, many of whom have been part of the family for several years, committed to providing excellent customer service.

From our humble beginnings rooted in a Halloween snapshot, 2 Witches Winery & Brewing Co. has grown into a beloved local destination.
